In Saturday night’s 3-2 win over Houston, D.C. United’s forward tandem of Chris Pontius and Maicon Santos were as versatile as they were lethal. Against a stingy Dynamo defense, the duo proved the perfect complement for each other as they combined for two goals and an assist in a banner evening for the Black-and-Red attack.

Unlikely heroes along United back line
On an evening where D.C. United’s offense failed to score, a makeshift defense shut down Seattle’s vaunted attack to earn a scoreless draw at RFK. Key to the performance was Dejan Jakovic, who came off the bench and turned in a ninety-minute effort in replacing the suspended Brandon McDonald.
“He stepped in and did well to be vocal,” veteran Robbie Russell said of Jakovic. “What we wanted from him was a big, physical presence and he showed that. He did a great job.”
